Complete new upgraded DuraGrip Traction-Lok (TL) assembly with TWICE THE CLAMPING FORCE as our regular unit! This TL unit is designed to specifically fit the Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) cars such as the '89-97 Tbirds/Cougars, the '93-98 Mark VIIIs, and the 28-spline IRS Cobras. The TL units from a solid axle car are NOT compatible with the IRS applications.
These upgraded assemblies are built with a high strength nodular case, forged 4320 chromoly spider gears, and Raybestos composite clutches. For unmatched positraction performance, the DuraGrip is the ultimate choice. When your vehicle demands performance, durability and strength. Whether it’s at the track, off roading, racing or on the street, you deserve the confidence that these units offer!
This unit is for 28 spline half shafts and is perfect for replacing your existing worn out TL or great as an addition to a car that came from the factory with an open differential. The following cars came from the factory with an open differential and can be retrofitted with this new TL unit:
All '93-98 Mark VIIIs
All '94/95 Tbird SCs with automatic transmissions
Many V8 Tbirds/Cougars from '91-97...check your axle code on the door and use a Ford shop manual to decode if you have a TL unit installed or not.
NOTE: When using the aluminum housing that came in the Mark VIII you will have to chamfer the casting boss as shown in the picture on the side where the ring gear bolts up for proper clearance. This is not necessary on the cast iron housings.
These units are rebuildable with an inexpensive new friction/steel kit that SCP can provide. The manufacturer recommends the use of high grade Non-Synthetic GL-5 gear oil and LSD (Limited Slip Differential) additive for long life and smooth operation. The use of synthetic oil is not recommended and may result in aggressive or noisy operation.
